Does a laboratory oven need to be a new oven or can a used version be purchased in order to save money? That is a somewhat tricky question as a used oven that is purchased cheaply and turns out to have been a good buy whereas a used oven that was purchased and turned out to be problematic is a situation where the person buying the oven would have been better served buying a new laboratory oven.

The reality of the matter is the fact that an oven will last a long time if it has been properly been taken care of. If the oven had been stored or used in a manner that was either neglectful or damaging to the oven, then the laboratory oven will probably not be worth the hassles. It would be, in a sense, purchasing someone else’s problems by way of acquiring a malfunctioning oven.

If one wants to be sure that an oven will be in decent working condition, then one would probably opt to purchase an oven that is brand new. If the oven is new, then usage problems due to age will not occur. If, however, the new laboratory oven is in bad shape, then it will usually come with a warranty or return service slip. This way, it can be exchanged for an oven that will work. When purchasing a used laboratory oven, then one just might end up stuck with an oven that cannot be exchanged or repaired.

If one opts to buy a used laboratory oven, however, then it would be wise to only purchase from a dealer who has a solid track record and deals with used items that are in good shape as opposed to any old item. In this case, then a used purchase may prove helpful.
